Tampa Child Custody Lawyers
Going through a divorce is difficult for everyone. When children are involved, it can be more emotional and stressful. As a parent, you may worry about how custody arrangements will affect your relationship with your child. You may experience a loss at the idea of having a “schedule” you must comply with and be anxious about how the entire matter will be resolved.
At these times, you need a strong legal advocate to ensure your and your child’s best interests are a priority. At Rechel & Associates, our goal is to help families in the Tampa area reach child custody agreements consisting of parenting plans and timesharing schedules that they can be happy with, and that are best for the kids.
We know how crucial it is for parents to develop parenting plans that work not only for them but also for their children. Our family law attorneys work meticulously to ensure that appropriate plans are established from the outset: these plans can be challenging to modify or change in the future. It’s vital to get them right the first time.

Understanding How a Parenting Plan Works
A written parenting plan sets out the rules and responsibilities of parenting a child, including, but not limited to:
- Timesharing schedule – which parent has timesharing with the child on what dates, including holidays, summer and winter breaks
- School district – which parent’s address will be used for school designation
- Rules on third-party caregivers, daycare, babysitters
- Extracurricular activities, who pays/who decides
- Any other provisions relating to your child that are unique to your family situation and circumstances
Parents can decide on these arrangements outside of court through mutual agreement and mediation, creating a parenting plan that is then submitted to the court for approval. It will likely be approved if the plan adheres to the court’s policy of protecting the child’s best interests.
If parents cannot reach an independent agreement, the court intervenes and decides based on the child's best interests. Factors considered include the child's relationship with each parent, each parent's capacity to provide for the child's needs, the child's home stability, any history of domestic violence or substance abuse, and other considerations relevant to the case.
At Rechel & Associates, our Tampa child custody attorneys understand the importance of crafting a good parenting plan and timesharing schedule for your children. We are also well-versed in how courts view this critical matter, how the law impacts it, and how to negotiate with the other side to reach a solution that respects your rights while prioritizing your child’s best interests.
