Pasco County

Family law across Pasco, from the Gulf side to Wesley Chapel.

Pasco County is really several places wearing one name. The west side runs along the Gulf through the older river towns of New Port Richey and Port Richey. The middle holds the lake country around Land O' Lakes. The east side, around Wesley Chapel, has seen the county's wave of large master-planned growth over the past two decades. A divorce or custody case can start in any of them, and the firm handles all of it.

Pasco sits in Florida's Sixth Judicial Circuit, which serves Pasco and Pinellas counties. The circuit's Family Law Division has jurisdiction over dissolution of marriage, custody and parenting matters, child support, paternity, domestic-violence injunctions, name changes, and adoptions. If your case is one of those, it belongs in that division, and it will be heard at one of two buildings.

That is the part most people do not know going in. Pasco keeps two judicial centers, one on each side of the county, and where in Pasco you live is what decides which one hears your case. Rechel & Associates practices at both, so the first thing we settle is where your case will actually be, and then we prepare you for that courtroom, not a generic one.

Pasco Courts

Two courthouses, east and west. Where you live decides which one hears your case.

Pasco County splits its family-court work between a west-side center in New Port Richey and an east-side center in Dade City. Preparing for the wrong one wastes time you do not have. We practice at both and confirm yours at the start.

West Pasco

West Pasco Judicial Center

7530 Little Road, New Port Richey, FL 34654

The family-law venue for New Port Richey, Port Richey, and west Pasco residents, with the Unified Family Court in Suite 201. The building went up in 1990 and was expanded in 2009. If home is on the Gulf side of the county, this is most likely your courthouse.

East Pasco

Robert D. Sumner Judicial Center

38053 Live Oak Avenue, Dade City, FL 33523

The east Pasco family-court location, serving Wesley Chapel and the east side of the county. Plenty of Wesley Chapel families assume their case goes to New Port Richey. Usually it does not, and it is better to learn that from your lawyer than from a scheduling notice.

Which location hears your case depends on where in Pasco you live, under the circuit's family-law division map. We confirm it at filing, so you are never preparing for the wrong courthouse.

Cities We Serve

Across Pasco County.

Pasco County

Each city page covers what a family-law case looks like from that part of the county, including which of the two judicial centers is likely yours. Lutz is the odd one out: it straddles the Hillsborough and Pasco county line, so a Lutz case can land on either side of it.

If home sits south of the county line, the Tampa page lays out the firm's home base and the courts on that side.

Common Questions

Questions Pasco County families ask.

Which courthouse will my Pasco County divorce be heard in?

Pasco hears family-law cases at two judicial centers. West Pasco residents, including New Port Richey and Port Richey, generally go to the West Pasco Judicial Center on Little Road. East Pasco residents, including the Wesley Chapel area, generally go to the Robert D. Sumner Judicial Center in Dade City. The assignment follows the circuit's family-law division map, not a guess, so we confirm the venue at filing. You will know where your case belongs before anything is submitted.

I live in Wesley Chapel. Where is my case filed?

Wesley Chapel sits in east Pasco, so family-law matters from that area generally run to the Robert D. Sumner Judicial Center at 38053 Live Oak Avenue in Dade City. That surprises people who assume the New Port Richey courthouse because it is the better-known one. The division map controls, so we confirm the assignment for your address before filing rather than assuming.

Do you travel to Dade City and New Port Richey?

Yes. The firm practices at both of Pasco's judicial centers, the West Pasco Judicial Center in New Port Richey and the Robert D. Sumner Judicial Center in Dade City. Our office is in Tampa, and most of the work between hearings happens by phone and video, so where you live in Pasco changes the courthouse, not the way your case is handled.

Does Rechel & Associates have an office in Pasco County?

No. The firm's office is at 2913 Busch Lake Boulevard in Tampa, and it serves Pasco families from there. Court appearances happen at whichever Pasco judicial center your case is assigned to, and nearly everything else, the planning, the paperwork, and the updates, runs by phone and video on a schedule built around your week. You rarely need to drive to Tampa.

What kinds of cases does the Pasco family court handle?

Pasco County sits in Florida's Sixth Judicial Circuit, which serves Pasco and Pinellas counties. The circuit's Family Law Division hears dissolution of marriage, custody and parenting matters, child support, paternity, domestic-violence injunctions, name changes, and adoptions. Rechel & Associates has practiced family law exclusively since 1992, so if your matter belongs in that division, it is the kind of case the firm handles every day.

Pasco runs two courthouses. We work in both.
Theodore J. Rechel, Founding AttorneyLicensed 1990 · Firm founded January 1992

Knowing which building your case belongs in sounds small until you need it. It shapes the drive, the filing, and the preparation, and it is the first thing we pin down. The firm practices at both of Pasco's judicial centers, so east or west, the process is the same steady one.

Knowing a courthouse means knowing a building and a process, never a thumb on the scale. What it buys you is arriving ready and clear on the day, without being sold an outcome no lawyer can promise.

Theodore J. Rechel founded the firm in January 1992, and it has practiced family law exclusively ever since. Today he and attorney Jacob Goss serve families across Pasco, Pinellas, and Hillsborough counties, and that steadiness shows in more than 80 Google reviews from Tampa Bay families.
